Honeybaked Pair Sign Tender Agreements for Next Season
February 20, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, have signed a pair of forwards from the Honeybaked U18 hockey club to tender agreements for the 2014-15 season. Joe Sofo and Garrett Halford could join the Fighting Falcons next season, as the tender agreements give Port Huron the NAHL rights of each player.
ÃÂ
Sofo, a 17-year-old from Sylvania, Ohio, nearly became a member of the 2013-14 Fighting Falcons after a great performance in Port Huron's tryout camps last summer. Sofo made it to main camp before the Fighting Falcons' coaching staff decided one more season at the AAA level would be best for his development.
ÃÂ
"Joe made a big impression on us during our Camps this summer and we have followed his development since then," said Gershon. "He had a tough start due to an injury but his determination to get back to his old form has really shown that he is the type of person we want in our organization.
ÃÂ
"Garrett is one of the top point producers not only on his team but in the HPHL and he's had interest from a lot of NAHL teams, so we are very happy that he has signed with us," Gershon said. "We think he's going to be a very good player due to his skating and high hockey IQ, and I think he will follow in the footsteps of other younger players that have stepped in right away here and made themselves noticeable to scouts and to our fans."
ÃÂ
Halford and Sofo's Honeybaked team is one of the top AAA teams in the country, and won the Midget AAA Silver Stick championship in Sarnia in January.
ÃÂ
Halford and Sofo are the third and fourth players tendered for the 2014-15 season so far, as they join Matt Kidney and Brendan Jacquay in the Fighting Falcons system.
ÃÂ
The current crop of Fighting Falcons returns to action Saturday, February 22 when they host the Janesville Jets at 7 p.m. at McMorran Arena. Tickets are available at the McMorran Arena Box Office starting at just $7 for seniors, students and military. For more information, call the front office at (810) 966-3800.
