July 4, 2023 - Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL)
Brampton Honey Badgers News Release
The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday they have signed Canadian forward Tyrell Green.
The former Ottawa BlackJacks and Guelph Nighthawks (now known as the Calgary Surge) forward returns to Canadian soil ahead of his seventh professional campaign. Green has appeared in a total of 39 CEBL games across four seasons, most recently averaging 6.9 points and 15.5 minutes in 17 contests in the nation's capital last summer. The six-foot-seven shooter is most known for scoring 11 of his 15 points in Target Score time, including the game-winning triple, on June 27, 2022 against Scarborough, mounting at the time, the largest Target Score comeback (23-8) in CEBL history. The forward will be reunited with former teammate, Cody John, to close out the season in Brampton.
Green's 125-game professional journey has brought him around the world with stops in six different countries. The forward's recent experience overseas came with the Glasgow Rocks of the British Basketball League (now known as the Caledonia Gladiators), with a five-game stint highlighted by an 18-point performance, while shooting four-for-eight from distance on November 21, 2022 against Plymouth.
"Tyrell brings a variety of important leadership qualities to our team both on and off the court, and he remains a great scoring threat from beyond the arc," said Jermaine Anderson, general manager and vice-president of basketball operations. "We are excited to welcome him to our Honey Badgers family as we aimed for a strong second half of the season."
The Toronto native has represented Canada on three occasions, including most recently at the 2020 FIBA AmeriCup Qualifiers.
Following a two-year collegiate career at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Green signed his first-professional contract becoming a member of the Musel Pikes in Luxembourg. In his debut campaign, Green averaged 11.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 24.2 minutes in 10 games.
The addition of Green comes following the release of forward Nick Wiggins and U Sports guard Najee Brown-Henderson on June 29.
The Honey Badgers and Niagara River Lions will play two of their three meetings of the CEBL season this week. The first game takes place Wednesday night at CAA Centre in Brampton, while the teams meet again on Friday night at Meridian Centre in St. Catharines. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at www.honeybadgers.ca/tickets.
