Honey Badgers Re-Sign CEBL Sixth Man of the Year Mcewen

The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday that they have re-signed 2022 CEBL Sixth Man of the Year Koby McEwen. The Toronto native will enter his second season donning the pinstripes following an impressive start to his professional career. After raising the CEBL Championship trophy last August, McEwen played with the Norrköping Dolphins of the Basketligan in Sweden, averaging 14.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in 10 games before suffering a season-ending injury. McEwen signed with the Raptors 905 of the NBA G League on February 27, appearing in four games with the club to date.

"Koby McEwen is key to our efforts to build a 2023 roster capable of defending our league championship, so we're very excited to have him back with us," said Jermaine Anderson, General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations of the Honey Badgers. "Koby consistently developed his game last season and with his great work ethic, there's really no limit to what he's capable of. He has a chance to become a leader for our team for years to come."

McEwen made a heavy impact on the Honey Badgers lineup last season, starting in nine of his twenty-one appearances. The 6-foot-4 guard was a force on the offensive end of the floor, co-leading the team in points scored alongside teammates Christian Vital, CEBL Finals M.V.P, and Caleb Agada, CEBL Canadian Player of the Year. He ranks second all-time in franchise history in three-pointers made in a single season with 48. McEwen was recognized for his achievements in his first professional campaign at the CEBL Awards in August, being named the 2022 CEBL Sixth Man of the Year.

The Weber State graduate capped off his five-year collegiate career by averaging 18.2 points in 33 games in his senior season. With the Wildcats, he was named 2022 Big Sky Newcomer of the Year and earned first-team All-Big Sky honors. McEwen appeared in 150 games at the Division-1 level, while also spending time at Utah State and Marquette.

Coming off a historic championship in 2022, the Honey Badgers open the 2023 campaign May 24 at TD Place Arena in Ottawa, in what will tip off the Canadian Elite Basketball League's fifth season. They play their first game at the CAA Centre in Brampton two days later, May 26, against the Scarborough Shooting Stars. The CEBL announced the permanent relocation of the Hamilton Honey Badgers to Brampton on November 28, 2022.
