Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

AMARILLO, Texas - Seven members of the Brazos Valley Bombers crossed home plate in the team's 10-6 victory over the Amarillo Sod Squad Friday night.

A night of offensive dominance kicked off the navy and gold's long road trip out of town. The team recorded 15 hits, five of which ending in multi-bag gains, while stealing four bases and drawing 10 walks. Friday marked the Bombers' third win over the Sod Squad this summer.

Amarillo wasted little time taking the lead, sending a two-run bomb over the right field wall in the bottom of the first. An RBI single in the second extended the Sod Squad's lead by another run.

The Bombers fired back in the third with the help of some off-target pitches. Second baseman Daniel Altman and center fielder Dylan Rock each made it on-base by drawing walks, then were both scored by a two-RBI single into right field by third baseman Troy Viola.

One-run outings in the third and fourth extended Amarillo's lead back to three, but a solid fifth inning brought the Bombers back into the competition. Rock drove in left fielder Grayson Tatrow, then scored on a double into left field by catcher Ryan Snell. Altman took advantage of a wild pitch in the top of the sixth, tying the ball game.

The Sod Squad tacked on a run in the sixth, but Brazos Valley finally took the lead for the first time of the evening just three outs later. Shortstop Casey Sunseri brought home Snell, then a single into right field by Altman allowed Viola to give the Bombers a one-run edge.

Bombers first baseman Shelby Becker hit his first home run of the season in the top of the eighth, scoring himself and Tatrow. In the ninth, designated hitter Hudson Polk scored on a single into right field by Sunseri in what eventually became the night's final dagger.

Relief pitcher Isaac Crab led the navy and gold's bullpen, striking out five as part of the team's overall 11 plate retirements, while allowing only one hit and zero earned runs. Starter Andrew Hill and relief man Dylan Johnson also contributed to the night's tally.

With Friday's series-opener having come to a close, Brazos Valley climbs to a 14-13 record on the summer and a 3-2 resume for the Texas Collegiate League second half with playoff stakes on the line. Amarillo falls to 10-16 on the season and 1-4 in the second half.

The Bombers will return to action Saturday, July 10 for a rematch between the two teams. Hosted in Amarillo, game two of the series is set for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch, followed by a third faceoff on Sunday night at the same time.
