Chico Outlaws News Release

The Chico Outlaws entertained on opening night, lighting up the scoreboard at both the beginning, and end of the ballgame en route winning their fourth consecutive game. The Outlaws scored six runs in the first three innings to get out to a 6-2 lead, and they would score nine runs in their final three at-bats's (6th,7th, and 8th) to salt away a double-digit victory, 15-5 over the defending GBL champion Orange County Flyers.

The Outlaws got out of the gate early, scoring one run in the first on a Rich Janeway groundout. In the second inning, the Outlaws totaled four runs, with the first four men of the batting order each notching single RBI's.

Ahead 5-0 after two innings, the next drama of the ballgame came when Chico starter Evan White tried to finish the fifth inning to qualify for the victory. Entering the 5th, the Outlaws lead 6-3, but exiting, it wasa 6-5 ballgame as 2008 Chico Outlaw slugger Julian Benevidez knocked in two runs on a single to tighten the game.

White did make it through five complete, and turned a 6-5 lead over to rookie reliever Mikael Ryder. Reminiscent of Donald Brandt's performance out of the bullpen last night, Ryder would blank the Flyers for the next four innings, allowing no runs on two basehits an striking out seven.

As Ryder worked his mastery in relief, the offense picked back up to provide some breathing room. Jonny Ash lead off the sixth inning with a solo homerun, making the score 7-5. In the seventh inning, Blake Gailen would knock in a run with a triple and the Outlaws would pick up a run on an Orange County error, taking a 9-5 lead to the eighth.

In their final at-bat in the eighth, the Outlaws would send ten men to the plate and push across six more runs to clinch the game. The middle of the order Rich Janeway, Bryan Silverman, and Ryan Brown smashed consectuvie RBI doubles in the inning, and Ryder would come back in the ninth inning to complete the now lopsided, four inning save.

In the big victory, several Outlaws put up impressive offensive numbers. In his North State homecoming, Redding native Rich Janeway notched six RBI's. Truan Mehl continues to lead the team in hitting, going 4-for-5 tonight to continue his season-long hitting streak. Jonny Ash hit his first home-run of the season, and Blake Gailen went 2-for-3 with two extra-base hits and a RBI, reaching base four times overall.

Join us tonight at "The Nett" for first pitch at 7:05 p.m. as the Outlaws try to stay on a roll and make it 5 in a row! Tickets can be bought online, over the telephone or at the stadium. Gates and the Will Call Window open at 6 p.m.
