Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - A Jorge Cortes two-run homerun in the home half of the seventh inning was not enough for the Capitals (3-2), as the Long Beach Armada (2-3) scored four times in the top of the ninth to take the first of the three-game series by a score of 11-7.

"It was a good feeling," Cortes explained about his seventh inning homer, "I had been waiting for the fast ball. I got it and was able to hit it hard."

Hector Almonte (0-1) gave up all four Armada runs in the ninth inning and suffered his first loss of the season. Although he gave up the homerun to Cortes, Rusty Jones (1-0) picked up the win for Long Beach pitching 1.2 innings of relief.

Capitals hitters will now look forward to facing former Major Leaguer, Jose Lima, as he is scheduled to start for the Armada against Sherwood Park's Lou Pote on the premiere of $2 Tuesdays - all kids combos at the concessions are just $2 dollars. Lima (0-1) will be making his second start of the season after having pitched on Opening Day in Calgary and taking the loss in a 4-0 complete game start against the Vipers.

"I actually like facing big league pitching because they are more around the plate," Caps second baseman Gary Harris shared about facing Lima, "They learn the big league strike zone which means they have to pitch to a smaller area. I'm just excited to face him, to face a big leaguer and everything. Hopefully it goes well."

The Caps two dollar Kids Packs combos include a hotdog, fries and a pop. Kids twelve years old and younger will receive a dollar off the everyday low priced $3 combo on $2 Tuesdays. The last game in the home stand is Wiener Wednesday. All Capital Dogs are $2. This week only, the first 1000 people through the gates will receive a complementary dog.

pre-CAPS:

Tuesday, May 26 - 7:00pm ($2 Tuesday): Armada (Lima, 0-1) vs. Capitals (Pote, 1-0)

Wednesday, May 27 - 7:00pm (Wiener Wednesday): Armada (Fox, 0-0) vs. Capitals (Jordan, 0-0)
