Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres scored four times in the bottom of the eighth inning to put Tuesday's game out of reach, beating the Memphis Redbirds, 9-2. It was the second straight convincing victory for the T-Pads, who have now won four of six on their current homestand. Padres starter Bear Bay pitched four shutout innings, while Josh Spence, Erik Hamren and Brad Boxberger threw scoreless innings out of the Tucson bullpen.
Logan Forsythe led the Padres offense Tuesday. The leadoff hitter was 4-for-4 with a walk, three singles and three runs scored. Forsythe is now hitting .360 after seven injury rehab games with Tucson. Jedd Gyorko and Matt Clark each hit home runs in the eighth inning, one night after the two hit back-to-back home runs in the third. Yasmani Grandal added his second straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. Beamer Weems pounded two doubles and drove home a run.
Former Tucson Padres outfielder Cedric Hunter led off for Memphis and went 0-for-4. Hunter played 81 games for Tucson in the inaugural 2011 season. Cody Decker made his Triple-A debut Tuesday, going 0-for-3 with two walks for Tucson.
