Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - Braden Holtby posted 15 saves for his first shutout of the season, while Graham Mink, Garrett Mitchell and Boyd Kane all lit the lamp and helped the HERSHEY BEARS to a 3-0 victory over the Binghamton Senators on Wednesday night at Giant Center.
The Senators were whistled for the first penalty of the game at the 3:54 mark of the opening period, when Mark Borowiecki was called for roughing. It took just ten seconds for Mink to tap in a pass from the left wall by Keith Aucoin past Robin Lehner, giving the BEARS a 1-0 lead. Jacob Micflikier earned the secondary assist.
HERSHEY increased their lead to 2-0 at 12:47 when Mattias Sjogren's centering pass from the right half wall deflected on goal, forcing Lehner to react with the left pad. The rebound kicked out to Mitchell, who slapped the puck home while falling for his second goal of the season. Dmitry Orlov was credited with the secondary helper.
Francis Lessard and Joel Rechlicz then dropped the gloves in a spirited fight at 2:14 of the second, bringing the sellout crowd to its feet. Later in the period, Micflikier took a low shot that Lehner thought he had frozen. The puck was loose, and Kane deposited it into the net with a backhand shot at 14:22 for his fourth goal of the season and a 3-0 BEARS advantage.
The BEARS would go on to hold Binghamton to just two shots on goal in the final frame, while Mike McKenna came on in relief of Lehner and stopped all eight shots sent his way.
With the win, the BEARS improve to 7-3-2-0 on the season and 3-1-1-0 at home, with Holtby's record improving to 4-3-0. Lehner took the loss to fall to 4-4-1, turning aside 24 of 27 shots through two periods of work. The BEARS power play ended 1-for-1 while the team killed off both Binghamton advantages.
HERSHEY will continue a three-game homestand when they host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at GIANT Center on Friday, November 11 for a 7:00 PM faceoff. Individual tickets for this and all regular-season home games are on sale now by calling (717) 508-BEAR, or by visiting ticketmaster.com.
