Holmberg Named Pitcher of the Week

MOBILE, AL - David Holmberg has been named Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 6 through May 12. Holmberg earned the award after an eight inning shutout performance in Chattanooga in which he struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Holmberg also helped himself with 2 hits and 2 RBIs in the BayBears 5-2 victory on May 9th.

Through seven starts this season the 21-year-old from Port Charlotte, Florida has a record of 1-2 and an ERA of 1.98. In 41 innings of work he has allowed 34 hits and only nine earned runs. The lefty has struck out 31 while walking just 13.

In five minor league seasons Holmberg is 28-26 with a 3.50 ERA in 90 appearances (83 starts). Originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 2nd round in 2009, Holmberg was acquired by the Diamondbacks on July 30, 2010.

He is the second consecutive BayBear to win a Southern League weekly award, following Ender Inciarte who was named player of the week for April 29 through May 5.

Holmberg's next scheduled start is on Tuesday, May 14, when the BayBears host the Jacksonville Suns at Hank Aaron Stadium in game three of a five game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
