Birmingham Barons News Release

The Barons saw their nine-game home winning streak snapped Monday as the Montgomery Biscuits held on for a 2-1 win in front of 3,004 fans at Regions Field.

The Biscuits and Barons traded zeroes for much of the afternoon with Montgomery breaking a scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Kyeong Kang and Riccio Torrez. The runs were the only tallies against starter Erik Johnson (2-2, 2.58) on the afternoon as he allowed five hits and struck out eight over 6.0 IP.

The Barons failed to threaten for much of the day, mustering just two hits against Biscuits starter Matt Buschmann (5-1, 2.70) who struck out seven over 6.0 IP. In the 7th, a leadoff walk to Trayce Thompson and a throwing error by first baseman Cameron Seitzer put runners on the corner with no outs. However, the Barons were unable to score as Andy Wilkins struck out and Tyler Saladino grounded into an inning ending double play.

A Keenyn Walker RBI single in the 8th cut the Biscuits lead to one, but the Baron were unable to complete the comeback, falling to 25-12 on the season and 14-3 at Regions Field. Walker also stole his league-leading 15th base of the season for the Barons who lead the league in steals with 55.

The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow as RHP Nick McCully (2-1, 5.50) takes the hill against RHP Merrill Kelly (2-3, 4.25). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
