CHARLEBOIS RE-SIGNS WITH ICEHOGS
UNH product skated in 13 games with Rockford in 2008-09
Rockford, Ill.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced Wednesday that the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League re-signed defenseman Joe Charlebois (SHAHR-luh-boy) to a one-year AHL contract.
In 13 games with the IceHogs in 2008-09, the 23-year-old blueliner recorded two assists and 15 PIMs. He made his professional debut on Feb. 25, 2009 at Peoria. Charlebois came from the University of New Hampshire (NCAA), where he served as one of the team captains his senior year.
"Joe is a defensemen that made some nice strides with us last season after he joined the team in February," Bernard said. "This will be a big season for him as he will be with us right from the outset and won't have to play catch-up like he did last year. This a great signing for the IceHogs as it gives us some more depth at a pivotal position."
Charlebois was the Blackhawks' sixth-round pick (#188 overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. The defenseman skated with New Hampshire for four seasons before turning pro. He appeared in 127 games in his career, notching 27 points (3g-24a) and 161 PIMs. In 18 games with the Wildcats in 2008-09, he recorded a career-high nine assists.
The Potsdam, New York native was named Hockey East's "Best Defensive Defenseman" in 2007-08 after completing the season with a team best plus/minus rating of +26 in 38 games.
