Rockford IceHogs News Release

Port Huron, Mich.- The Rockford IceHogs biggest nemesis is starting to become the third period. On Friday night, the Port Huron Flags netted four third period goals to knock off the IceHogs 4-1 at the McMorran Place Arena. In two games in Port Huron this season, the IceHogs have been outscored 7-0 in the third period.

With Rockford leading 1-0 entering the third, it didn't take Port Huron long to get things rolling. On the power play :37 into the final frame, the Flags needed only seven seconds to net the goal on the advantage as winger Bobby Kukulka deflected in the marker off of a Chris Bogas shot at :44 to tie the contest.

Flags winger Mark Cadotte put Port Huron on top when he shelved his third goal of the season at 9:50 of the third period while the teams skated 4-on-4. Then at 11:12 defenseman Josh Elzinga fired a rebound past IceHogs goalie Frederic Cloutier to give the Flags a 3-1 cushion. Winger Colt King would finish off the IceHogs at 18:06 when he dumped his third tally of the season into the empty to give Port Huron the 4-1 edge.

After a scoreless first period the IceHogs took a 1-0 lead when winger Jason Notermann deflected a Chaz Johnson shot past Port Huron goalie Dustin Traylen at 13:28. The goal ended Traylen's home shutout streak that spanned 189:43, dating back to Nov. 10 against Rockford. The goal was also the first for Notermann since returning to the IceHogs.

The Hogs were out shot 35-27 in the contest and Traylen was impressive making 26 saves while Cloutier stopped 31 of the 34 shots faced. The Hogs finished 0-for-6 on the power play and held the Flags to 1-for-7.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Dec. 9 vs. Chicago Hounds. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Hounds hook up once again at the Rockford MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive an IceHogs hockey puck from Bryden Motors. The game also marks the Hogs Annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used stuffed bear to the game and after the IceHogs score its first goal, fans can toss the bears onto the ice. The Teddy Bears will then be collected and distributed to local hospitals and the Mountain of Toys.
