Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs returned home Wednesday night and knocked off the Quad City Mallards 4-3 in a shootout in front of 2,695 at the Rockford MetroCentre. Winger J.F. Dufour notched three points as the Hogs broke out of a shootout slump to earn the win.

It was the Mallards who scored first however, as winger Marty Standish punched one past Hogs goalie Michel Robinson on the power play at 10:26. Rockford got the goal back before the intermission when J.C. Ruid notched his 34 marker of the season at 17:58.

In the second period Dufour gave Rockford a 2-1 lead, blasting home his 21 goal of the season past Robert Gherson at 6:15. The Mallards tied the contest back up however, when Alexandre Mathieu picked up an IceHogs turnover at 14:32 and slipped the equalizer past Robinson.

The IceHogs later grabbed the lead the back on the power play after Alex Kim slapped one past Gherson. But once again the lead wouldn't last. In the third period defenseman Troy Smith blew the game-tying marker through traffic at 3:56.

In the shootout, Chris Gobert and Vince Malts tallied for Rockford to give the Hogs the win. Robinson turned away 21 shots in the winning effort, including all three Mallards shootout attempts. The Hogs peppered Gherson with 35 shots.

Next Home Game: Sunday, March 13 vs. Elmira Jackals. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs and Jackals meet for the only time this season on Sunday. Sunday means a Family Four Pack Day, that's four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks for only $40.
