Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced that the United Hockey League club has loaned rookie defenseman Matt Gens to the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League. The promotion to the AHL is a first for Gens.
The Hogs rookie defenseman will join Hogs blue-liner Nathan Lutz and center Preston Mizzi in the Admirals' lineup tomorrow night when they face-off against the Peoria Rivermen at the Bradley Center. This season with the IceHogs, Gens has two assists in 19 games with a plus/minus rating of +10.
"It's always a bonus when a rookie gets called up," said Martinson. "He certainly deserves an opportunity to play in the AHL because he has done a great job for us this season."
Gens attended Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) rookie camp prior to coming to Rockford this fall. The first-year pro attended St. Cloud State University (NCAA) the past four years and was one of the Huskies top defenseman.
With the promotion of Gens, Rockford has now had six skaters on their 2005-06 roster called-up to the AHL and a total of 14 call-ups. Rookie winger Chaz Johnson (Milwaukee), defenseman Evgueni Nourislamov (Milwaukee) and goaltender Michel Robinson (Milwaukee and Chicago) have also received promotions to the "A".
