Moncton Wildcats News Release
Moncton, NB - Wildcats chaplain Bill Parks prayed for a $5,000 fundraiser, his prayer was answered.
There was an auction of specially designed Wildcats warm-up jerseys during the weekend home games of February 21st and 22nd. The auction helped Parks and Hockey Ministries International realize a profit of $5941.79.
"I put the $5,000 figure in my prayer journal when we began planning the jersey auction a couple of months ago," said Parks. "The fans and supporters of the Wildcats had no way of knowing what that figure was, but I guess the Power that runs the Universe knew. When the final numbers were tallied up, I was amazed beyond words. We were over our projected goal and the media exposure our program received was worth untold amounts of money. A special thank you has to go to Bill Schurman and the administrative people in the Wildcats office, the hockey fans who showed their support by bidding for the jerseys, the churches in the Greater Moncton area who supported the effort and the media who prompted the event," Parks concluded.
The Wildcats, one of the first teams in the QMJHL to support the hockey chapel program, honoured Pastor Parks, with a special centre ice jersey presentation on February 22nd. Parks, a devoted hockey fan and Baptist minister has been working with the Wildcats for four seasons. He offers spiritual guidance and comfort for the young hockey players, meeting with them weekly and is on call 24/7 should there be a personal crisis.
Funds raised will help to continue and develop the Hockey Ministries program in the region. Hockey Ministries International is now present in 22 North American leagues. It is offered to teams to provide a safe spiritual and emotional resource for players. It is also an opportunity for all players to seek answers, counsel and support, from Chapel Leaders. The chapel program has been recognized by various leagues as being a positive addition to players' schedules.
