Hockey...And Your Little Dog, Too

January 16, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - Whether your small dog is cuddly and cute or feisty and faux-fierce, he or she can help animals currently at the Cedar Bend Humane Society while taking the ice at Young Arena on Saturday, January 25th during the Waterloo Black Hawks' annual Dainty Doggy Dash.

Fully-grown dogs weighing 25 pounds or less are eligible to join us for an intermission race which is fun for all. The event is scheduled during Waterloo's game against USA Hockey's National Team Development Program.

Originally created as the "Dachshund Derby," the event was expanded in 2016 to include terriers, beagles, pomeranians, and any other breed which meets the size and age requirements. Since 2012, the Dainty Doggy Dash and its predecessor competition have raised nearly $1,000 for the Cedar Bend Humane Society through registrations fees, which are contributed in full to CBHS. The Cedar Bend Humane Society opened in 1968 to provide a place to shelter stray, neglected, and unwanted pets. The organization currently provides a temporary home and care to dozens of dogs and cats waiting to find their forever homes with a loving family.

Registrations are requested by Thursday, January 23rd. All prancing pups taking the ice will be monitored by Black Hawks staff at a check-in/check-out area throughout the entire evening. A kennel should be brought from home for each participating dog. The registration fee is $10 per dog.

Every entered canine must be accompanied by two human representatives who will be on ice during the Dainty Doggy Dash at the first intermission. Game tickets will be available for $10 each for these assistants. For more information, please call the Black Hawks at (319) 232-3444.
