YUMA, Ariz. ? The Yuma Scorpions were as hot at the plate as the weather in Yuma on Tuesday night.

Maikel Jova went 4 for 5 to lead the Scorpions while Yosvany Almario and Henry Calderon each went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs, in a 16-hit, 12-3 victory over the Reno Silver Sox at Desert Sun Stadium.

Yuma jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but fell behind 3-2 in the fifth after Reno?s Kane Simmons hit his league-leading 15th home run of the season.

But then the Scorpions offense took over, reeling off three runs in the fifth, two more in the sixth, one in the seventh and four in the eighth to take their 14th game (14-5) of the second half of the season.

Almario and Calderon each hit home runs in the three-run fifth which put the home team up for good.

Yuma starter Evan White earned his sixth win (6-2) of the season by going seven innings, allowing eight hits while allowing just three runs (one earned). He also struck out six Silver Sox batters.

Reliever Matt Saucedo pitched two innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four.

Reno had 10 hits of its own, led by Adam Amar?s 3-for-4 night and Juan Senreiso?s 2-for-3. Starting pitcher Matt Parris got the loss (5-8), allowing seven runs on 10 hits over six innings.

The two teams play a double header on Wednesday night, first game starting at 5 p.m. with Game 2 set to start at approximately 7:45 p.m.
