Hippies Held in Check After Quick Start

Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Hippies jumped out to a quick start against Greenville on Thursday night; however, the visitors came alive in the middle innings and handed Asheville a 6-2 loss. The Hippies were unable to complete the sweep but still won the series two games to one.

Shelby Lackey limited Greenville to only one hit and no runs over the first four frames. Asheville scored first and it came on an RBI double by LeeMarcus Boyd in the bottom of the fourth. Daniel Montano followed with a single into center but Boyd was thrown out attempting to score.

That outfield assist seemed to give Greenville momentum. In the top of the fifth the visitors rallied for three runs, all with two outs. Asheville countered with a run in the bottom half when Terrin Vavra raced home on a wild pitch. The deficit was cut to one at 3-2. Unfortunately, that is as close as the Hippies would come.

Greenville added an insurance run in the seventh and two more in the eighth. Asheville struggled to put runners aboard late. Only one of their final 16 hitters reached base and that came on a Greenville error.

Asheville will transform back into the Tourists and welcome in the Augusta GreenJackets on Friday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
