Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Lynchburg snapped a five-game losing streak with a 5-1 win last night at Kinston in the series opener of a four-game set. The Hillcats trailed 1-0 heading into the seventh inning before rallying for the game one win. Starter Curtis Partch matched his career-high with seven innings of effort in picking up the win.
It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth inning that a run would score thanks to Hillcats starter Curtis Partch and Indians starter Joe Gardner. The K-Tribe would finally strike in the sixth with a two-out RBI single by Jeremie Tice. The Cats quickly responded though with a run in the top of the seventh inning to tie the contest at one a piece.
An inning later Lynchburg took their first lead of the night with a three-run frame. Cody Puckett ripped a double down the third base line to score Jordan Wideman who doubled to start the inning. Two more runs came across on the two-run home run off the bat of Denis Phipps to make it a 4-1 game. It was Phipps sixth homer in 19 games with the Cats. An insurance run was added in the top of the ninth inning thanks to an RBI single by Jordan Wideman who had a pair of hits on the night.
The win went to Partch (5-8) for Lynchburg (15-22, 44-63). Partch matched his career-high with seven innings of action and gave up just one run. The loss went to reliever Travis Turek (3-3) for Kinston (17-21, 53-55). On Friday night the Hillcats and Indians meet again for the second game of the four-game series. The Cats will send right-hander Jordan Hotchkiss (7-4, 2.47) to the rubber opposite righty Austin Adams (3-0, 1.42) for the Tribe.
