Game Highlights

Quarter 1: Highlanders 21, Lightning 25

The Highlanders began the second game of their 4-game road trip by welcoming power forward Mike Glover, who started in his first game with the team. Similar to last night's game against the Windsor Express, the Highlanders started slow by finding themselves down 6-0 early. The Highlanders played sloppy throughout the first quarter by giving up 9 turnovers. Fortunately for Cape Breton, their defense was able to force the Lightning into take difficult shots, and keep the game close.

Quarter 2: Highlanders 61, Lightning 47

Cape Breton came out playing great basketball. They took care of the basketball by not turning it over, and were firing on all cylinders on both sides of the court. They began the quarter with a 20-7 run that would allow them to take the lead. Their consistent shooting from the 3-point line helped them out-score their opponents 40 - 22 in the quarter.

Quarter 3: Highlanders 92, Lightning 81

The third quarter started with the Lightning shooting well, bringing the deficit to as low as 5 points. The Highlanders started to match their shooting though, and kept the lead throughout the quarter. Highlanders captain Bruce Massey was effective on both ends on the floor, helping the Highlanders to end the third quarter with an 11-point lead.

Quarter 4: Highlanders 114, Lightning 114

The Lightning started the quarter with a 17-7 run to make it anyone's game. Both teams would exchange the lead before the Highlanders were able to get an 8-point lead with just over three minutes left. The Lightning wouldn't go away, tying the game with only two minutes to go. The game would go down to the the wire and a missed buzzer-beating 3-point shot from the Lightning would send the game to overtime.

Overtime: Highlanders 129, Lightning 122

The overtime period was kicked off with the Highlanders gaining a 4-point lead early. Bruce Massey led his team throughout the overtime, as he came up with big steals and was the driving force of the Highlanders offence, finishing the game with 42 points and 11 assists. The Highlanders were able to capitalize on their free throws in the overtime period and improved to 1-1 on their Central Division road trip.
