Game Highlights
1st Quarter: Highlanders 23, Storm 26
The Highlanders took the court at the Eastlink Centre Saturday night to take on the Island Storm. The game started out very physical, which would set the tone for an exciting game ahead. Both teams showed good flashes on offence. Aaron Redpath of the Highlanders had a tremendous start, dropping 11 of Cape Breton's 23 points.
2nd Quarter: Highlanders 50, Storm 56
The Storm had a hot start in the second quarter, but the Highlanders were able to keep their own offence going, and kept the game within reach. The Storm continued to struggle with locking up Redpath.
3rd Quarter: Highlanders 81, Storm 86
Both teams started the second half by making lots of shots, and would continue to do so throughout the remainder of the quarter. There was high intensity in the game, with both teams giving their best effort play in and play out. This high scoring quarter made it clear that this was still anyone's game.
4th Quarter: Highlanders 107, Storm 107
The final quarter had lots of excitement. The Highlanders stepped up on defense, and were able to hold off the Storm's scoring. The Highlanders would tie the game back up with just a couple minutes left in regulation. Both teams were making big plays at each end of the floor to trade leads. With the game tied, Jamal Reynolds blocked two back-to-back Storm shots that could have won the game in the final seconds. The Highlanders also had a chance to win in the final seconds, but missed.
OT: Highlanders 116, Storm 115
Overtime was close the whole way through. Both teams had lots of chances from the free throw line, and the game stayed close throughout the 5-minute overtime period. Cape Breton's Jamal Reynolds and Bruce Massey came up big in the extra time, and the Highlanders would squeeze out a big victory on the road.
