Game Highlights

Quarter 1: Highlanders 20, Magic 23

The Highlanders came into Thursday's match up with a short roster. Chris Johnson, Aaron Redpath, and Charles Strowbridge were unable to play due to illness or injury. Cape Breton came out with a hot start, getting to an early lead. The Moncton Magic, who currently hold the best record in the NBLC, stormed back and took the lead. This quarter was high intensity, and the Magic ended it with a 3-point lead.

Quarter 2: Highlanders 45, Magic 48

The second quarter saw the Highlanders come out strong once again, going on a 15-6 run to regain the lead. That margin wouldn't hold up long though, as Moncton managed to string up a 10-0 run to get back on top. Cape Breton didn't seem to have an answer for Moncton's Billy White, who had 14 points on 78% shooting. For the remainder of the quarter both teams traded baskets, and the Magic went into half up 3 points.

Quarter 3: Highlanders 80, Magic 81

The second half continued to be led by Billy White who would go on to finish the game with 30 points. As the Magic tried to stretch out their lead, Highlanders players Bruce Massey, Jamal Reynolds, and Landon Atterberry made big shots and kept their team in the game. No team would give an inch, and Moncton would head into the final quarter with a 1 point lead.

Quarter 4: Highlanders 105, Magic 102

The final quarter saw Moncton maintain a 5-point lead for the first few minutes. As time started to wind down, Cape Breton had made it a one-possession game. With just under 2 minutes to go, each team traded leads, making each possession vital. Highlanders guard Bruce Massey came up with some clutch free throws late in the game to put his team up 3 with just 8 seconds remaining. A big defensive stop by the Highlanders would secure the victory. This was the Highlanders third win in a row against the team with the best record in the NBLC.
