High scoring Devon Green and the Snohomish Explosion tip off with first home game tomorrow night

April 17, 2009 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Snohomish County Explosion News Release

The Snohomish County Explosion (1 win and 1 loss) are fast and young under new GM Sean Keck and first year coach Chris Weakley.

They are also highly skilled. IBL Commissioner Mikal Duilio "The Explosion is comprised of young talent that wants to play either in the NBA or at a high level overseas; they are really driven and hungry to succeed; especially impressive is the shooting touch of 6 foot 6 inch Devon Green... he is one of the best scorers I have seen in the five years of the IBL, he has that NBA touch and consistency."

- Devon Green currently leads the IBL league in scoring with an average of 37.5 points per game. This 6-6 swingman originally from Phoenix Arizona, played in the 2003-04 season for Boston College who finished the season with a 24-10 regular season mark. This also included an impressive 10-6 record in BIG EAST as Boston College earned its third NCAA Tournament bid that season. Green averaged 22.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as a senior at Moon Valley High School (Green was a two-time Nike All-American in high school)

- Point Guard Anthony Slater has a combined 30 assists in two games and is also quite the defender with 13 steals.

- Jeffery Day and Chris Ford should be among league leaders in rebounds and block shots.

This year will be interesting for the Explosion who has so much raw talent that you can expect some great games with record setting performances... and you can expect some rookie jitters and heartbreaks in other games. "I guess the most exciting thing you can look forward to", owner Nathan Mumm comments, "is that every game will be an adventure and we will get a surprise every night with this young group." The Explosion average age was 30 years last year; this season, the average age is 24 years old and no one on the squad is over the age of thirty.

The Explosion 2009 schedule appears tougher than in any other year according to IBL Commissioner Mikal Duilio- "every single IBL team is extremely tough this year, vastly improved, organized, recruiting guys who are right on the edge of going somewhere"; Duilio notes the exception being first year team Japan Tornadoes who "are expected to struggle to find their way". The Explosion will tip-off in the first of ten home games at the Monroe Sports Arena on Saturday night (see schedule below). Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first 200 fans through the door receiving a complimentary team poster.
