High Desert Mavericks Provide Additional Opportunities for Local Schools

High Desert Mavericks News Release

ADELANTO, Calif. - The High Desert Mavericks, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, are providing schools in the High Desert with unique and beneficial ways beyond the two scheduled Education Days taking place on May 3 and May 18. The aim to continually benefit schools brings back the School FUN-raising Nights and California-League wide Kellogg Garden Organics School Garden Contest.

In 2015, the Mavericks introduced School FUN-raiser Nights which provide schools the opportunity to raise funds while also giving up to 400 students a complimentary ticket with a FUN, on-field, one-of-a-kind experience during pre-game ceremonies. The FUN-raising Night program allows schools to raise money through the buying or preselling of fundraiser tickets at $3 per ticket and selling each for up to the face value of $8 to earn a max of $5 per ticket sold. In the program's first year, eleven game dates allowed the Mavericks to give out over 2,200 complimentary tickets totaling just under $18,000 in tickets donated to schools.

"With such great success in 2015, the Mavericks welcome back school FUN-raising Nights," said General Manager Ben Hemmen. "We are excited to add an additional night because of the high demand last year and hope that even more schools can raise money in 2016 at Heritage Field."

The twelve School FUN-raising Nights in 2016 are April 11, April 12, April 13, April 21, May 2, May 4, May 5, May 17, May 19, May 23, June 1, and June 2.

Kellogg Garden Organics is again sponsoring the California League School Garden Contest. Kellogg Garden puts on a contest where students from districts in and around California League cities create garden designs and submit them through their local MiLB team. These designs are passed onto Kellogg Garden and five winners are selected. Those selected get to see their design come to life at their school with material and support donated by Kellogg Garden. In addition, the winning class will be celebrated with an on-field presentation and the student(s) who designed the garden will have the opportunity to throw out a first pitch at their local California League team's game.

In a previous press release, Kellogg Garden Organics' Director of Sustainability Kathy Kellogg-Johnson said, "It is very important to Kellogg Garden Organics and to me personally to impress the importance and value of the environment on the next generation. Through working together to construct garden beds, students begin to understand and connect with the environment. That's why, whenever possible, Kellogg fosters this learning experience by donating soil and fertilizers to local school gardens."

For more information on how to get your school involved in the Kellogg Garden Organics School Garden Contest as well as additional questions in regard to School FUN-raiser Nights, call the Mavericks front office at (760) 246-6287 or email sphilipps@hdmavs.com.

The High Desert Mavericks open their 26th season in the High Desert on April 7 against the Inland Empire 66ers. The Mavericks offer a variety of season ticket plans and packages, which are on sale now. Company and group outings may be booked now as well. Individual game tickets will be available for sale in March.
