(Hickory, NC- September 11, 2015)- The West Virginia Power lost 6-3 to the Hickory Crawdads on Friday night in game two of the South Atlantic League's Northern Division Championship Series. The Crawdads tagged Power starter Stephen Tarpley for four runs, three earned, on nine hits to guarantee a decisive third game of the series.
Hickory opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first on three consecutive singles, including a run-scoring hit by Edwin Garcia. West Virginia, however, would answer in dramatic fashion in the top of the second. With two outs and a runner on first, Connor Joe hit the first pitch he saw from Crawdads' starter Ariel Jurado over the left field wall for a 2-1 Power lead.
The Crawdads tied the game on a RBI ground out in the bottom of the third and took a 3-2 lead in the fourth. Eric Jenkins singled in Juremi Profar from third to recapture the edge. West Virginia evened the game in the top of the fifth. Kevin Kramer plated Pablo Reyes with a two-out single to tie the game at three.
Hickory added one more run against Tarpley in the sixth inning after two walks and a run-scoring single by Jose Cardona. The Crawdads scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run triple by Luke Tendler.
Tarpley (0-1) took the loss after allowing four over five and a third. Dillon Tate (1-0) worked two scoreless innings of relief for the victory and Scott Williams pitched the final two innings for the save.
The final game of this best-of-three series is slated for Saturday evening at 7:00 pm. Yeudy Garcia will start for the Power against the Crawdads Collin Wiles at Hickory's L.P. Frans Stadium. The winner will advance to the South Atlantic League Championship Series against the winner of Saturday's third game between Savannah and Asheville.
