HFX Wanderers FC News Release
Halifax, N.S. - HFX Wanderers has received approval from its provincial and municipal health authorities and the Canadian Premier League to return to training.
The club will begin to hold voluntary closed-door workouts for players at Soccer Nova Scotia on Monday June 1.
As part of the CPL's training protocol, a phased approach will begin with non-contact, individual or small group sessions.
This will allow the club to provide a secure, sanitary and controlled environment, that ensures adherence to safety protocols and physical distancing measures for players and staff.
The priority of these protocols is the safety and the well-being of players, technical staff and employees, as well as their families, when they return to training.
"We're grateful for our Nova Scotia Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Strang's leadership during this difficult period and in providing us guidelines as a business to safely get our players back on the pitch while protecting the public and our staff," said Derek Martin, HFX Wanderers Founder and President. "This is the first step towards getting back to entertaining our loyal fans and once again bringing joy to our community."
Wanderers players who will be returning to Halifax after travelling home when training was put on hold, will observe a 14 day period of quarantine before getting back to training.
The league and the Wanderers continue to monitor all input, guidance and direction provided by all levels of government and all football governing bodies.
Media will not be allowed any access to the training facility. Coach and player interviews can be arranged through Wanderers media contact Gareth Hampshire and conducted as per the club's media policy.
