HFX Wanderers FC News Release
Halifax, N.S. - After a busy off-season rebuilding the club's roster, HFX Wanderers get down to business back on the field this week when training camp begins.
The team's new look squad of players are starting to arrive in Halifax today.
Medicals will take place tomorrow, with the first day of training on Wednesday March 4th.
12 new signings have been added to compliment the 7 returning players from the team's first season.
University drafted players Cory Bent and Jake Ruby are also included in those attending camp and both will have the chance to win spots in coach Stephen Hart's final 2020 squad.
With a healthy blend of youth and experience, the Wanderers have set a goal of competing for the championship this season.
Coach Hart will lead his squad into the hard work on the pitch beginning indoors at the BMO Centre in Clayton Park, thanks to the club's partnership with Soccer Nova Scotia.
Following three weeks of sessions there, the team will then head to the Dominican Republic for a week of warm weather training from March 22nd to March 30th.
The team will play some preseason matches on the trip.
"This year's squad is well balanced with a number of players who can play several different positions and I'm excited to see the team get together for the first time at training camp," Hart said. "We were also able to keep a nucleus of players from last year who know what is required, so I'm happy with the position we are in."
Preseason training is starting just over a month before the Wanderers kick-off their 2020 campaign.
The team play their first league match on April 13th in Ontario against York9 FC.
The team's home opener is at the Wanderers Grounds, April 25th against Atlético Ottawa.
