Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

After a short stint with the Bossier City Battle Wings, WR/DB LaRico Cole has been assigned to the Quad City Steamwheelers. Cole started the season off with the Steamwheelers and back on May 15th, Cole asked to be placed on re-assignment.

Bossier City was quick to pick Cole up as he was assigned to the Battle Wings on May 23rd. Cole played his first game for the Battle Wings on May 24th and had four receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown in a 34-31 win over the Columbus Wardogs.

The Battle Wings went through a few changes after the win, Cole being one of them. Cole was placed on re-assignment on May 28th. The 5'10, 185 lb. WR/DB out of Indianapolis University then contacted Steamwheelers head coach Rich Ingold about an opportunity to re-join the ‘Wheelers. With the injury to Matt Forbes, that opened up a roster spot for Cole who was assigned to the Steamwheelers today.

"Of course I missed it, I had some personal issues that I had to deal with in Memphis, Tenn., but it's good to be back," Cole said of his return.

Cole, who had played in three games, caught five passes for 58 yards, tow going for touchdowns in his first stint with the ‘Wheelers. Now, Ingold hopes that Cole will be able to add more depth to this all ready deep receiving core.

"The kid's a good athlete, he's great to have back," Ingold said of Cole's return.

That was not the only action that took place on Monday for the ‘Wheelers. OL/DL Scott Tyrcha was activated from short-term injured reserve only to be re-assigned by the league. DS Lee Wiggins was also activated from the short-term injured reserve. However, Wiggins was not re-assigned and will play this Saturday night against the Swarm.

WR/LB Randall Lane, who has been battling a bad hamstring, was placed on the short-term list. Forbes was placed on the long-term injured reserve list due to his MCL injury.

Cole will officially make his return this Saturday night when the ‘Wheelers take on the Cincinnati Swarm, 7:30 p.m. at The MARK of the Quad Cities. The ‘Wheelers will then stay at home the following weekend to take on the Louisville Fire, with the same kickoff time and same place.

Good tickets are still available and can be purchased at The MARK box office or through TicketMaster at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 563.326.1111.
