Yuma Scorpions News Release

In a rare double sweep week, the Long Beach Armada and Yuma Scorpions bag both awards for their respective divisions.

California Division Player & Pitcher of the Week:

Ryan Webb, OF, Long Beach Armada, is the California Division Player of the Week. The 6'2", 200-pound slugger hit .480 for the week. He had a league-leading 12 hits, including three doubles. He was second in the league with eight runs scored. A Chico State alum, Ryan felt right at home at Nettleton Field as he led the Armada to a three-game sweep of the Outlaws. Webb is now batting .346 on the season and is second with 25 runs scored.

Adam Pettyjohn, LHP, Long Beach Armada, is the California Divison Pitcher of the Week. The former Detroit Tiger pitched a league-high 15 innings on the week. He posted a 0.60 E.R.A. and struck out 11 while walking only one. Adam upped his league-leading record to 5-1. The big lefty was instrumental in the Armada's climb to second place in the California Division.

Arizona Player & Pitcher of the Week:

Alexis Hernandez, C/1B, Yuma Scorpions, is the Arizona Divison Player of the Week. Though he was coming off of a stint on the Disabled List, the former Cuban National player did not miss a beat. For the week, he posted league-high marks in average (.615), doubles (4), home runs (3), RBI (10), and slugging percentage (1.615). Alexis sparked a surging Scorpion squad to a 2-1 series victory over the first-place Mesa Miners, pulling them within one game at week's end.

Dustin Kupper, RHP, Yuma Scorpions, is the Arizona Division Pitcher of the Week. In his first start of the week, the 24- year old Tucson native went the distance to defeat the Chico Outlaws 1-0. It was only the third shutout in the league this season. Thanks to a pair of double-plays, the big right-hander faced only two batters over the minimum. Then on Sunday, Dustin went six innings and allowed only one earned run in a Scorpion victory over the Mesa Miners. The former Florida Marlins draft choice was the only GBL pitcher to win two games during week. For the season, he has struck out 34 batters in 37 innings, while only walking nine.
