Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Sioux Falls Stampede fell to the Youngstown Phantoms, 4-3, in game one of the two-game road series on Friday. Beckett Hendrickson and John McNelis each added a goal to their records while Hayden Reid found his first USHL goal.
Youngstown found twine first 9:32 into the first period, sitting one goal up for just three minutes before the Stampede's Beckett Hendrickson found his second of the season. On the powerplay, Hendrickson's goal came off assists from Chris Pelosi and Kaz Sobieski. The Phantoms were able to net one more goal with 10 seconds to play in the period, setting the scoreboard at 2-1 in favor of Youngstown heading into the second.
The second period started similarly to the first with Youngstown scoring first and going up 3-1 at the 6:38 mark. Just 19 seconds later, John McNelis found the third goal of his career with help from Egor Barabanov and Jack Phelan. Youngstown would go on to score one more goal before the second intermission.
The last period saw a different struggle for both teams when the layer of fog in the arena posed a bit of a visual problem for both teams. Nonetheless, the Herd's Hayden Reid was able to add one more tally to the Stampede's scoreboard, his first of his USHL career. Assisted by Gennadi Chaly, Reid's goal would be the last change to the scoreboard and leave the Stampede with the 4-3 loss.
