Hens Lose 10-9 in Longest Game in Fifth Third Field History
August 6, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
It took 19 innings, but the Rochester Red Wings completed the season sweep of the Mud Hens in a 10-9 victory at Fifth Third Field on Sunday night.
A 7-7 tie could not be broken until the Red Wings managed three runs off Jose Ortega in the top of the 19th to seal the victory in the longest game in the history of Fifth Third Field.
Rochester had the lead early after scoring a run in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead off starter Brooks Brown.
With the San Diego Chicken coaching first base as part of a stunt, the Hens then exploded for six runs in the third inning to take a big 6-2 lead.
The rally started with Cale Iorg, who blasted a solo shot off the scoreboard in left. John Lindsey then smashed a three run homer later in the inning, and two more runs came across after a pair of bases loaded walks.
Rochester got a run back in the fifth after Eduardo Escobar hit a solo shot for his first homer of the year. The Red Wings would later tie the game up in the eighth with a three run rally off Chris Bootcheck and company.
Bootcheck made an outstanding diving grab on a bunt attempt to prevent another run, but he left the game immediately after with an apparent injury.
With the bases loaded and the game tied in the eighth, a John Lindsey infield single gave the Hens the go-ahead run, but Chris Parmelee hit a solo shot in the top of the ninth to tie the game back up at seven.
The Hens hit the road tomorrow and travel to Louisville to open up a four-game set with the Bats. Drew Smyly is scheduled to start and first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes
John Lindsey went 5-for-7 with 2 HR and 6 RBI on the night.
The Hens are now 0-8 vs. the Red Wings in 2012.
The game was a Fifth Third Field record for innings played (19) and elapsed time (6:32).
