Buffalo Bisons News Release

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that LHP C.J. NITKOWSKI has been promoted to the Herd from Double-A Binghamton. RHP JEFF STEVENS was placed on the disabled list with a left ankle contusion, retroactive to August 4.

Nitkowski, 39, was signed by the Mets on July 14 and has made six scoreless appearances out of the bullpen for the Binghamton Mets this year. In 4.2 innings of work, the southpaw has allowed just one hit and four walks while striking out eight batters.

Prior to 2012, Nitkowski had not pitched in affiliated baseball since going 5-1 with a 2.97ERA in 58 games for the Indianapolis Indians in 2006. He pitched for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of the Japan Pacific League in 2007-2008 and then the Nexen Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization in 2009-2010. Last year, Nitkowski did not pitch after undergoing a procedure in which his own stem cells were injected into his injured left shoulder.

A former first round pick of the Cincinnati Red in 2004, Nitkowski is a career 18-32 with a 5.37ERA in 336 career major league games with the Reds, Astros, Tigers, Mets, Rangers, Braves, Yankees and Nationals from 1995-2005.

Stevens is 1-1 with a 3.71ERA in 27 games with the Bisons this season.
