Harrisburg Heat News Release

Harrisburg, PA – Harrisburg Heat midfielder Jason Webb has been named to the 2001-02 Major Indoor Soccer League All-Rookie Team, the circuit announced on Tuesday. Webb received 11 All-Rookie Team votes (sixth overall). Midfielder Mike Feniger, who played a total of 25 games in two stints with the Heat in ’01-02 and scored 5 goals and 17 points, also received two All-Rookie votes in this year’s balloting.

The 26-year old Webb scored 10 goals and 24 points in 40 games in 2001-02, his first professional indoor season after playing outdoors since 1998. The graduate of Cedar Cliff High School and Messiah College finished strong, scoring 16 points over the final 9 games of the year.

Webb, signed by the Heat following invitational preseason tryouts, becomes the twelfth All-Rookie selection in the HeatÂ’s eleven-year history, and the fourth in the last three years: Drew Kaufmann and Steve Klein were picked in 1999-00, and Chris Morman was an All-Rookie honoree in 2000-01.

At a press conference today in Baltimore, Blast defender Billy Nelson was named the MISLÂ’s Rookie of the Year for 2001-02, and teammate Sean Bowers was tabbed as the Defender of the Year. Heat backliner Nick Corneli, who scored 24 goals and 67 points and blocked 62 shots this season, finished fourth in Defender of the Year balloting with two first-place votes and 17 total points.

The League will announce its 2001-02 All-MISL Teams on Tuesday, May 7 (the announcement had originally been scheduled for May 2). The 2001-02 MISL Most Valuable Player will be announced on Thursday, May 9.
