Stockton Heat News Release

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Heat, proudly owned by the NHL's Calgary Flames, announce that Heat fans tossed a Stockton Hockey record of 9,502 bears onto the ice after Matt Frattin's first period goal during the 12th annual Teddy Bear Toss at Stockton Arena.

"The Teddy Bear Toss is always an amazing event that the people of Stockton and the Central Valley love and support," Team President Dave Piecuch said. "It's amazing to see two new records established in back-to-back years now to help the children in our community. We hope to make it a 'hat trick' of records next year and collect over 10,000 bears during the 13th annual Teddy Bear Toss!"

This year, an extra 1,271 bears flew onto the ice surface this year than last year's 8,231 stuffed animals, which was until now, the record for the highest donation amount in Stockton Hockey history, dating back to 2006 when the Stockton Thunder (ECHL) called Stockton Arena home. The old record established during the 2015-16 season, the first year of the Stockton Heat, obliterated the ECHL record of 5,835 bears donated in 2011 by a total of 2,396 bears.

The counting was performed earlier this morning at the United Way of San Joaquin County, the beneficiary of all 9,502 of these bears! The United Way will distribute these stuffed animals to children in need and to various charities in our community.

Stockton hosts Safety Night sponsored by City Rise Safety, Mike's Towing Service and PG&E on February 4 at Stockton Arena with the team handing out safety vests to the first 2,000 fans. After the game, we'll attempt to set the world record for most people wearing safety vests in one location. Safety workers who own their own vests are encouraged to wear their own representing the thousands in our community who work the dangerous jobs to help improve our community.
