Harrisburg Heat News Release

Petras, backliners step up in victory

Harrisburg, PA - Doug Petras made a season-high 29 saves and Zoran Karic scored six points in limited duty as the Harrisburg Heat (10-29 on the season) defeated the Baltimore Blast (15-22) for the second time in as many days, this time by the score of 13-10 in front of 3,256 fans at Baltimore Arena. Harrisburg was outshot 52-24 by Baltimore in the game, including 36-15 in the second half, but the difference was Petras and a Heat defense that blocked 20 shots.

Multiple first-quarter chances for both sides yielded only two goals: Paul Wright's 2pg at 4:20 of the first put Baltimore up 2-0, and Harrisburg's Nick Corneli drilled a low Zoran Karic service under losing keeper Karim Mounban (11 saves) to produce a 2-2 tie after one quarter.

Petras held tough between the Heat pipes as Harrisburg built a 6-2 lead in the second. Joey Murtagh finished an Eric Kvello cross for a deuce at 6:19, and at 10:54, with Denison Cabral in the penalty box and the Heat on the power play, Zoran Karic squeezed a perfect pass through the defense and Allen Eller settled and fired in a 2pg for the 6-2 edge. Wright's second goal of the contest, a tap-in at the far post at 14:14, made it 6-4 going into the half.

Matt Tanzini's restart tally at 3:18 of the third put the Heat up 8-4, but Baltimore came racing back to tie the game at 8-8 with 2pgs from Tarik Walker (5:51) and Lee Tschantret (8:07). A Dewan Bader holding penalty, however, gave the momentum back to Harrisburg, as Karic cranked a 3pg past Mounban for an 11-8 edge. The Heat led 13-8 going into the fourth thanks to Corneli, who pounded a deuce past Mounban from inside the box at 13:01.

Baltimore controlled the run of play in the fourth, outshooting the Heat 19-4 in the frame and shelling Petras relentlessly when Wright came on as the sixth attacker with three minutes to play. Harrisburg refused to crack, however, and left the building with the 13-10 victory.

NOTES: The Heat has now scored seven restart goals in its last two games…Harrisburg has now won consecutive games for the first time since November 24…Up next for Harrisburg is the Kansas City Comets, who come to town this Saturday, March 30. Game time at the Farm Show Arena is 7:35 p.m.
