Comets Get By Crunch

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Cleveland Crunch played host and were defeated by the Kansas City Comets, 20-16, this afternoon at the Cleveland State University Convocation Center in the second game of a back-to-back series. With the loss, the Crunch fell to 13-25 and dropped their second straight game. With the win, Kansas City improved to 22-15 overall and improved to 6-1 in the season series.

Unlike last night's game, Cleveland opened up the scoring (2-0) when Guiliano Oliviero found the left corner of the goal off the cross from Steve Butcher with 9:48 left in the opening stanza. The Comets took their first lead of the game (3-2) when Jeff Davis scored the three-point goal of the restart assist from Dino Delevski with 7:52 remaining in the first period. The Crunch regained the lead (4-3) when Butcher made a move on the Kansas City defender and beat Chris Damico for the goal from the pass of Justin Evans with 7:27 remaining in the first. Cleveland added to its lead (6-3) when Justin Evans ripped a shot that found the top of the net off the second assist of the game for Butcher with 26 seconds left in the quarter.

The Comets cut into the lead and opened up the second quarter scoring (6-5) when Vlatko Andonovski hit the rebound shot of Ato Leone for the score with 12:49 remaining in the first half. Cleveland added to its lead (8-5) when John Ball, who has not played in the last five games, scored of the rebound shot of Butcher, who picked up his third assist of the game with 4:06 left in the second quarter. Kansas City cut the lead to one-point (8-7) when Delevski scorched a shot to the upper right corner off the cross from Alex Zotinca with 2:32 remaining in the period. The Comets took their second lead of the game (9-8) when Nino DaSilva found the right corner of the net from the feed of Andonovski with 1:28 left in the half.

Kansas City increased its lead and opened the second half scoring (11-8) when Alex Zotinca hit the ball off the wall to himself to beat Jim Larkin for the score while Delevski picked up his second assist of the game with 10:55 remaining in the third quarter. The Crunch cut into the lead and ended a 6-0 run by the Comets (11-9) when Hector Marinaro scored on the header off the shot he took that hit the cross bar in the shoot out with 6:35 left in the third. Kansas City increased its lead (14-9) when Delevski hit the three-point restart goal from the pass of Andonovski with 6:57 remaining in the third quarter. Cleveland cut the lead to three points (14-11) when Lee Edgerton scored the power play goal off the pass of Marinaro with 5:11 left t o play in the period. The Crunch cut the lead to one point (14-13) when Kiley Couch tapped in the pass as he was sitting at the back post off the second straight assist for Marinaro with 3:11 remaining in the third quarter.

The Comets upped its lead to three points (16-13) when Dorin Zotinca found the back of the net off the cross from Andonovski with 13:20 left in the game. Kansas City added to its lead (18-13) when DaSilva scored off the third assist of the game for Delevski with 12:17 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Comets kept adding to their lead (20-13) when Dorin Zotinca scored his second goal of the game of the pass from Jake Dancy with 10:21 left in the game. Cleveland cut the lead to four points (20-16) when Marinaro hit the three-point goal on the restart with 6:32 remaining in the quarter.
