Harrisburg Heat News Release

Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Heat's front line received another boost on Friday as the club executed a three-way trade to acquire the rights to forward Marco Lopez from the Dallas Sidekicks. In the first part of the deal, Harrisburg dealt the rights to midfielder Steve Klein, forward Eric Kvello, and forward Bernie Lilavois to the Cleveland Force in exchange for the rights to midfielder Beau Brown; the Heat then dealt Brown's rights to Dallas for Lopez.

Kvello spent the past two seasons in Harrisburg, scoring 20 goals and 55 points in 75 games for the Heat. Neither Klein nor Lilavois has played for the Heat since the 2000-01 season. Klein scored 52 goals and 129 points for the Heat from 1999-2001, and was Rookie of the Year runner-up in '99-00. Lilavois scored 114 goals and 215 points in 81 games for Harrisburg from '99-2001. The forward still holds Heat single-season records for total goals (71) and 2pgs (56), both set in 1999-00.

Lopez, 31, played for Erich Geyer's highly successful Monterrey La Raza clubs in the Continental Indoor Soccer League/World Indoor Soccer League. Lopez ended his La Raza career as the club's all-time leading scorer, and tied Dallas Sidekicks legend Tatu for the WISL scoring title in 2000. He spent last year with the Sidekicks, scoring a goal and four points in seven games. The 5-4, 141-pound native of Mexico City is expected to begin practicing with the Heat early next week.

Harrisburg currently has sixteen players under contract: goalkeepers Doug Petras and Raul Salas; defenders Martin Hernandez, Genoni Martinez, Chris Morman, Francisco Rodriguez, and Matt Tanzini; midfielders Jake Atkin, Kevin Burk, Marco Coria, and Mike Henning, and Horacio Robledo; and forwards David Bascome, David Barbosa, Ato Leone, and Renato Pereira.

The Heat will open its 2002-03 MISL season next Saturday, October 5 in Philadelphia against the defending champion KiXX. Game time at the First Union Spectrum is set for 7:05 p.m.

The first '02-03 edition of the Heat Weekly release, including a roster and player bios for the players currently under contract, will be distributed this coming Monday.
