Green Bay Blizzard News Release

Game Wrap: Peoria 41, Green Bay 37

After a startling comeback that saw Green Bay score 27 unanswered points, the Blizzard had the Pirates teetering at the edge of the plank with 24 seconds left in the game. Just one more big gust was needed to blow Peoria overboard and the crowd into a frenzy, but it wasn't to be. The Pirates squeaked in a last second touchdown, and stole back the victory they almost let slip away. Ramon Robinson, who was inserted as Green Bays new starting quarterback, battled for 227 yards passing with four touchdowns and no interceptions, and had 17 tough yards rushing. Although mainly confined to the first half, penalties, turnovers and the opposing teams return yards again contributed heavily to the loss. Kevin Washington of the Blizzard garnered the Iron Man award for the game.

Blizzardman's Take: Heart Stopper Offers Glimpse

I better make this confession right away. Based on the first two home games, I never thought the team would rally back from the 34-10 deficit they faced early in the third quarter, and I've never been more relieved to be proven wrong. Apparently there is a lot more heart to this team than previously met the eye. And a few kudos for the fans, too. Just a whiff of some good play by the team and those people started rocking the place. When the Blizzard finally puts a big, big W on the board, the Resch is going to shake, rumble, rattle and roar, and be a very difficult place for opposing teams to strap it up in. Sure, another loss is disappointing. But Ill gladly take the second half of this contest as a glimpse of things to come, and with that comforting thought in my pocket, see YOU at the game!

Other Things You Saw if You Were There

• Blizzard posters (sponsored by Sir Speedy Printing and WNFL radio) given to the first 3,000 fans in the doors and a chance to get autographs from players, coaches and cheerleaders after the game.

• UW-Stevens Point product John Verdegan get a loud cheer during introductions even though he plays for the Pirates.

What You Didn't See if You Were There but Wish You Could have

• Head Coach Jose Jeffersons halftime call out to the team, which he described as a little come to Jesus meeting (along with) some choice words. Even the trainers decided it was best to wait outside for that one.

The Fan Connection: Man proposes to girlfriend in the stands at halftime Get this. Brian Drevs of Green Bay arranged to have the message Will you marry me Renae? flashed up on the jumbotron during a break at halftime. He then whipped out a ring and got down on one knee to ask Renae Conery of Menominee, Michigan to be his future wife. Even shock didn't keep her from saying yes in about half a second before giving him quite a kiss. The break wasn't supposed to be that long (for the kiss, that is) but hey its fan friendly here and we aim to please!
