LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES, Calif.- LA Galaxy Head Coach Curt Onalfo has named his full coaching staff, the club announced today. Onalfo appoints former Seattle Sounders assistant Ante Razov and LA Galaxy II assistant Rob Becerra as assistant coaches while Galaxy II goalkeeper coach Daniel Gonzalez joins as LA goalkeeper coach.
"We are excited to add Ante, Rob and Daniel to our coaching staff," said LA Galaxy Head Coach Curt Onalfo. "All three will provide valuable experience and insight that will help improve our players in their development on and off the field. I am confident in the staff we have put together and look forward to continuing to prepare for the 2017 season."
The trio joins the LA Galaxy following the departure of former coaches Dave Sarachan, Pat Noonan, Kenny Arena and Matt Reis, who joined former Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena on the U.S. Men's National Team staff last week.
Razov, a former USMNT and MLS veteran, joins the Galaxy coaching staff after serving as an assistant coach with Seattle Sounders FC since January 2015 and most recently helping Seattle capture their first MLS Cup. Prior to joining Seattle, Razov spent time coaching in the LA Galaxy Academy as head coach of the U-14's and U-18's in addition to serving as an assistant with Curt Onalfo on the USMNT under Bruce Arena. In addition to his coaching career, Razov recorded one of the most successful careers in Major League Soccer history while also featuring on the USMNT as a player. From 1996-2009, Razov made 262 MLS appearances while tallying the fifth most goals in MLS history with 114. During his career, Razov spent time with the LA Galaxy, Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, New York Metrostars and Chivas USA while winning the 1998 MLS Cup and earning MLS Best XI honors in 2003. He made 25 appearances and scored six goals as a member of the U.S. Men's National Team.
Becerra joined the LA Galaxy II coaching staff during the team's inaugural 2014 season and remained on staff for three years, helping the club reach the playoffs in each season while winning the 2015 USL Western Conference. Prior to his time with Los Dos, Becerra coached at Stanford University from 2006-2013 that followed a head coaching stint at Redlands University, where he led the Bulldogs to the their most successful run in school history. As Head Coach of Redlands, Becerra compiled a 126-28-8 record while earning their first NCAA playoff appearances, NCAA Division III Final and five-consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Program titles while earning 2001 All-Far West Region Coach of the Year.
Gonzalez, a former professional goalkeeper, joins the Galaxy after coaching LA Galaxy II since 2014. The Argentine has previously had coaching stints in Major League Soccer with the Colorado Rapids and Chivas USA, where he spent time coaching goalkeepers Dan Kennedy, Marcus Hahnemann and Ian Feuer, among others. As a member of the Los Dos coaching staff, Gonzalez was instrumental in the development of current Galaxy goalkeeper Clement Diop, who started in net in 2015 and 2016 for Galaxy II and signed a first-team contract with the Galaxy last year.
The LA Galaxy will kick off the 2017 MLS Season on Saturday, March 4 at StubHub Center when they host FC Dallas.
