Haymakers Take On Omaha Beef In Preseason Action

Lincoln, NE - The Haymakers will face their instate rivals, the Omaha Beef, in their last 2014 preseason game on February 21, at 7:05 P.M. inside the Ralston Arena. Johnny "The Jet" Rodgers will be honored during the Coin Toss Friday night before kickoff of the Omaha vs. Lincoln pre-season rivalry matchup.The Haymakers are looking to redeem themselves after three close losses to the Beef during the 2013 season. Lincoln looks to fine tune their roster before ending the preseason. Beating the Beef on their turf would be exactly what the Haymakers need to gain momentum going into the regular season as they face the defending league champions the Wichita Wild February 28th in Lincoln.
Haymakers head coach Cory Ross feels that this will be a great measuring tool for his team. "We are excited about getting another opportunity to evaluate our players before we set our final roster for the season. Also, we are looking forward to playing the Omaha Beef and see how we match up against them since we play them twice during the regular season."
Lincoln's first preseason matchup with the Nebraska Danger allowed a very young and inexperienced Haymakers squad to get acquainted with the expectations going forward. The matchup was highlighted by Kicker Benny Hannaphy's pass to All-CPIFL Wide Receiver Nick Rhodes who nearly took it the length of the field. Running back Brian McNeill also caught the coaching staff's eyes with a solid rushing touchdown early in the game.
On the Defensive side of the ball former Huskers, Antonio Bell and Andre Jones both hauled in an interception showing some promise for the defensive backfield. Both Tyler Burks and Antonio Ficklin recorded sacks against Danger QB's which looks to be a big focus after last season's Defensive Line rarely took down opposing quarterbacks. Lincoln will finalize their roster after Friday Night's Beef preseason game.
Defending champions, the Wichita Wild, will travel to Lincoln for the Haymakers first game of the regular season on Friday, February 28, at the Pershing Center with kickoff at 7:05 P.M.
