January 25, 2013 - Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL)
Lincoln Haymakers News Release

The Lincoln Haymakers Professional Indoor Football team is proud to announce the signing of former Huskers defensive backs Cortney Grixby and Andre Jones. The Haymakers are excited to add to their already stout defensive backfield competition with training camp opening up this week. Lincoln now has a total of eight former Nebraska Cornhuskers under contract as they look to develop a championship caliber indoor football team this spring.

Head Coach Dave Brumagen commented on these high profile signings for Lincoln. "It's a tremendous signing for the Haymakers orgainzation and the City of Lincoln to bring these two outstanding Huskers back home to play infront of Lincoln football fans once again."

Cortney Grixby, an Omaha native, was voted All Big-XII Honorable Mention three times while playing for the Huskers from 2005 through 2007. Grixby's success in college also earned him the Tom Novak Award, The Brook Berringer Citizenship Team Award as well as multiple Big XII Commisioner's Academic Honor Roll Honors.

In 2008 Grixby was signed by the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted Free Agent in the NFL. Grixby also played professional football for the St. Louis Rams and the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. Since 2009, Grixby has been an electric playmaker in the indoor football game on the Omaha Beef roster. With his indoor experience, Grixby looks to be a tremendous addition to the Haymakers roster in their inagural season.

Andre Jones is another former Husker Cornerback with quality experience in Division I football playing in 25 games in college while earning 13 starts in two seasons with the Big Red. In those two seasons Jones racked up a total of 88 tackles including 60 solo stops. A corner with solo tackling ability is vital in the indoor game without substantual safety help in most coverage schemes.

The Haymakers have started camp this week in prepration for the New Victorian Inn & Suites Kickoff Classic on March 29th in Lincoln against the Sioux City Bandits. The Haymakers will close training camp after their preseason game on Feburary 23rd against the Nebraska Danger in Grand Island, Nebraska.
