March 1, 2016 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Calgary, AB - It's been quite the day for Brandon Wheat Kings forward Jayce Hawryluk.
Hours after coming to terms on a new National Hockey League Entry Level contract with the Florida Panthers, the Roblin, Manitoba product has been named the Western Hockey League and IMPACT Player of the Month for February 2016.
A second round draft choice of the Panthers, Hawryluk scored seven goals and 33 points while registering a plus 19 rating in thirteen games last month. Hawryluk recorded multiple-point outings on 10 occasions, including three instances in which he collected at least four points to help guide the Wheat Kings to a record of 8-3-2-0 for the month.
Hawryluk's performance in February saw him earn one first star honour and two second star mentions. His efforts have helped the Wheat Kings remain in first place in the East Division standings and clinch a 2016 playoff berth. Hawryluk recorded a career-high six points (2g-4a) on February 17th against the Kootenay ICE in a Wheat Kings 11-1 victory.
The 5'10, 194 lb forward is second in team scoring with 79 points (30g-49a) in 49 games played, which also places him tied for eighth in scoring amongst all WHL skaters. Hawryluk is in his fourth season with Brandon and has amassed 251 points (102g-149a) along with a plus-80 rating in 223 career regular season contests.
Hawryluk's accomplishments make him a deserving choice as the WHL Player of the Month for February. He joins Macoy Erkamps, Tyler Coulter, Logan Thompson and Jordan Papirny as this year's Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries IMPACT Player of the Month.
The Wheat Kings kick off the first of a mini 2-game home stand Wednesday night - Rain Check Night - against the visiting Saskatoon Blades.
