Everett Hawks News Release
Having fought a brilliant, undefeated regular season, ending with a 14-0 record, the Everett Hawks had to sit through the last week of the season with a bye, waiting to see if division rivals, the Wyoming Cavalry would come up with the goods and help the Hawks secure home field advantage all the way through the post-season.
With Pacific Conference rivals, the Odessa Roughnecks, also having a perfect regular season a complicated system of tiebreakers was to be used to decide which team, Odessa or Everett, would keep home field advantage.
In the end it came down to Everett needing the Cavalry, who they'd defeated twice, scoring at least 18 points to swing the tiebreaker in Everett's favor.
Despite a surprising loss to the Cincinnati Marshalls, Wyoming's 45 points were more than enough to ensure that Everett will have the chance to play the rest of its season in front of its home fans at Everett Events Center, seeded #1 in its half of the Pacific Conference play-off draw.
The Hawks home field advantage means that their will be no Texas homecoming for team owner Sam Adams, a product of Houston's Cypress Creek High School and Texas A&M University. But Sam's not complaining, he wants Hawks fans to have the chance to see their team possibly go all the way!
Everett's post-season campaign begins this coming Friday, 8 July, against the Billings Mavericks at 7.05pm. The Hawks have already beaten Billings twice this season but nothing is being taken for granted in Everett's first National Indoor Football League campaign. The Hawks hope to have a full house at EEC, with fans raising the roof and raising their team to new heights!
If all goes well for both teams, the Hawks should have the chance to settle the argument about which is the Pacific Conference's best team with a conference title match-up against the Odessa Roughnecks in a couple of weeks.
