Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks won their first-ever meeting with the Fargo Force 5-2 Saturday at Young Arena.
After Derek Arnold poked in the rebound from a Jordan Samuels-Thomas shot 6:21 into the game, the Hawks were in the lead for good. Patrick Wey fired a shot in off the cross bar at 16:42. Scott Pavelski made it a three-goal opening period for Waterloo with an unassisted, shorthanded goal in the final minute of the first. It was the Hawks' first shorthanded score of the season.
Eriah Hayes made the score 4-0 at 2:44 of the second on a shot which was ruled a goal after a long discussion about where the puck hit the Fargo crossbar. The Force started to rally back with Keegan Flaherty's power play goal less than two-and-a-half minutes later.
In the third, Johnnie Searfoss cut the Black Hawk lead to two on a redirection at 4:59. That lead held until Pavelski added his second of the game with just under five minutes remaining.
The Tri City Storm visit the Black Hawks next on Friday. It's a college night, with five dollar seats for all college students with ID.
