Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Early goals in all three periods got the Waterloo Black Hawks out of the gates quickly Saturday and permanently ahead of the USHL Western Conference-leading Omaha Lancers during a 4-2 road win at Civic Auditorium.

Just 4:04 into the game, A.J. Michaelson dragged the puck across the slot, allowing enough time for traffic to congregate in front of Alex Lyon. Michaelson then snapped a wrist shot over the Omaha goalie's glove into the top corner of the net. It was the only score during the opening 20 minutes.

Waterloo notched another early goal to start the second period. Matias Cleland's chance from the left point found its way through traffic and into the net at 1:51. Omaha got onto the scoreboard less than three minutes later as Tanner Lane buried a shot from close range on a feed set up from behind the Hawks net by Nolan Zajac. However, the Hawks reassumed a two-goal cushion during a power play at 9:05. Ryan Papa found himself at the right hash mark with no one around except Lyon. Papa's low shot fluttered the net. Stephon Williams preserved the lead for the remainder of the period as the home team outshot the visitors 19-7 in the frame.

The Hawks preserved the lead as the teams traded goals in the third. Nifty passing behind the net by Tony Cameranesi and Scott MacDonald set up Aaron at the top of the crease to make the score 4-1 at 4:05. It remained that way until just 2:50 remained, when Casey Bailey drew the Lancers back within one on a power play.

Earning his first Black Hawks victory, Williams made 34 saves. It was the final meeting of the season between Waterloo and Omaha during the 2011-2012 regular season and the third Hawks win in four tries.

After two games on the road this weekend, the Black Hawks are back home for a pair of road games next Friday and Saturday. First, Waterloo meets the Fargo Force for the first time in 2011-2012, then it's a matchup against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Both games begin at 7:05 with tickets available online from waterlooblackhawks.com.
