Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - The Waterloo Warriors enter the final month of their schedule one point out of first place in the Midwest High School Hockey League. Whatever the outcome, after this exciting season ends the Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship will be presented to a deserving Warriors senior, and this month Cedar Valley sports fans can help make future scholarships available as part of the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture.
Each month from October through April, Waterloo Black Hawks supporters and 1650 "The Fan" listeners are encouraged to contribute $16.50 to a designated charitable cause through the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture. The Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Aumer, a youth advocate and supporter of the Waterloo Warriors hockey program. Dave's family and friends established this scholarship as a living legacy to his memory and love of hockey. Warriors seniors who are in good team standing, have maintained a 2.5 grade point average or better, and plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution, (full- or part-time) are eligible. The scholarship fund is managed by the Waterloo Community Foundation. This will be the third consecutive year that the Dave Aumer Memorial Scholarship Fund has benefitted from the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture.
"During the last couple of seasons, this has been the most popular $16.50 Campaign cause among our fans," said Joe Greene, Black Hawks president of business operations. "February is the shortest month of any year, but I hope that this will be the best month ever as we strive for 100 contributions, which would be enough to support three of these scholarships."
The goal is for 100 people or more to donate the manageable amount of $16.50 each month and together provide a bigger lift than any of them could make individually.
