Portland Winterhawks News Release

Moose Jaw, Sask. - Brayden Schuurman scored 2:20 into overtime to lift the Warriors past the Winterhawks by a 4-3 final in Game 3 of the 2024 WHL Championship presented by Nutrien.

Moose Jaw owns a 3-0 series lead heading into Game 4 tomorrow night.

Schuurman's winner came on a rebound as Rilen Kovacevic rattled the crossbar and a ricochet went straight to his stick for the finish.

Portland rallied twice to force overtime, first erasing an early 1-0 deficit, then striking in the third to even the contest at 3-3 and force OT.

The Warriors opened the scoring for the third straight game through Lucas Brenton at 4:22 of the first, but two Portland tallies in 1:53 helped the Hawks to a 2-1 lead through 20 minutes. Tyson Yaremko nabbed the first on a breakaway after a beautiful saucer feed from Ryan Miller, then Nate Danielson pulled out the tricks for a splendid shorthanded strike and Portland's first lead of the series.

The second period saw Denton Mateychuk nab two goals to give Moose Jaw a 3-2 lead through 40 minutes, but Marcus Nguyen quickly evened things up once again in the third with a bouncing shot at 3:56.

Puck drop for Game 4 is 7:00 P.M. PT tomorrow night as the Winterhawks enter must-win territory.
