
Hawks Drop Tightly-Contested Finale

Kerry Jenkins notched two more hits Friday but the South Bend Silver Hawks (42-43, 7-8) came up short, falling 4-3 to the Dayton Dragons in front of 8,343 fans at Fifth Third Field. The Dragons took two of three from South Bend in the final regular season series between the teams.
Cole Green (1-0) earned the win out of the bullpen for Dayton, allowing one earned run on one hits over one inning. Alex Capaul (0-1) took the loss for South Bend, allowing two earned runs on two hits over two innings.
Righty Carlos Contreras notched his ninth save with a perfect ninth inning.
Jenkins laced an RBI double to centerfield in the sixth inning to give the Silver Hawks a 3-2 lead. Dayton's Ryan Wright belted a two-run home run in the last of the sixth to give the Dragons a 4-3 advantage and eventually the win.
Archie Bradley started for South Bend and did not factor in the decision. The right-hander allowed two earned runs on four hits over five innings and matched his career-high with eight strikeouts.
Right-hander Stalin Gerson started for the Dragons and allowed two unearned runs on four hits over five innings.
The Dragons took an early 2-0 lead, but the Silver Hawks evened the ledger with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. The first scored on an error by left fielder Kyle Waldrop and a second came in on a sacrifice fly from Chris Ellison.
Ryan Court went 1-for-3 and scored two runs for South Bend.
Jake Barrett worked a scoreless inning out of the Silver Hawks bullpen.
The Silver Hawks finished 6-7 against the Dragons this season.
The Silver Hawks return home to begin a three-game series with the Fort Wayne TinCaps Saturday at Coveleski Stadium. Right-hander Tyler Green (2-4, 4.24) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by righty Matt Wisler (3-4, 2.51). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST.
