Everett Hawks News Release
Led by ADT Defensive Player of the Game John Fields, the Everett Hawks (7-1) battled back from a 19 point deficit at the end of the third quarter to stun the Stockton Lightning (3-5) 40-41. Their comeback was triggered by a 4th and goal stop on the two yard-1ine when Fields introduced himself to Wide-Receiver Phil Goodman of the Lightning.
Before a crowd of 3,325 quarterback Brian Baker (49-32-2) of the Hawks threw for 5 touchdowns - two with less than seven minutes left in the game. Hassan Brockman, the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game, was Baker's favorite target. Brockman (14-117-2) hauled in two TD passes including the game winner.
Tavarius Davis was promoted to WR/DB this week due to the sore hamstring of the Hawks leading WR - A.J. Street. Davis thanked the coaches by catching two TD passes and rushing for 1 more. His acrobatic one-handed, over the shoulder catch earned him the Cutter's Catch of the Game honors.
While the offense has been able to put points on the board, the effort of the defensive secondary has been questioned in the Hawks seven losses. The quartet of Milton Myers, Toure' Butler, Brockman and T.Davis quieted many of their critics tonight by allowing just three receiving touchdowns. Butler intercepted Josh Blankenship (22-15-2) in the end zone to seal the Hawks win. Myers, U.S. Army Ironman of the Game, accounted for 110 all-purpose yards and 4 tackles.
