Hawks Defeat Volcanoes Again, 9-5

BOISE, Idaho - Reggie Golden went 3-for-4 with a two-run triple, helping the Boise Hawks to their third-straight victory, defeating the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, 9-5, tonight at Memorial Stadium.

The win for the Hawks was their third in a row to move the team to 5-4 in the second half of the Northwest League season and their fifth home win in six games.

S-K jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the contest, getting a Dan Burkhart RBI double in the second and a Mike Murray RBI single in the third. However, Boise took the lead in the fourth, as Golden gapped his triple to left-center to tie the game, with Yaniel Cabezas hitting the next pitch off the wall in left to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead.

After the Volcanoes tied the score in the sixth on a Garrett Buechele sacrifice fly, Boise took the lead for good in the bottom of the frame - loading the bases on two walks and a Golden single. Cabezas drew a bases loaded walk to make it 4-3, with Willson Contreras adding a two-out RBI single to push the margin to 6-3.

Jean Sandoval retired all five men he faced in his Boise debut to pick up the win, while Joe Zeller got the final five outs for his first save. Brad Zapenas, Rafael Lopez, Blair Springfield, and Contreras each had two hits in the victory.

Rafael Martinez took the loss for the Volcanoes, allowing all four men he faced to reach. Leonardo Ochoa went 3-for-5, while Chuckie Jones and Burkhart each had two hits.

Game 4 of the series is tomorrow night, with Jose Rosario making the start for the Hawks against Brandon Allen at 7:15 p.m.

NOTES - Lopez has now hit safely in 17 of his last 20 games for the Hawks...Zapenas logged his first professional triple in the seventh inning...S-K used a five-man infield with a runner at third and one out in the eighth inning, but Springfield lined an RBI single into center.
